Blues brothers was released on this day in 1980.

I remember sitting in front of a tiny tv as a kid and the trailer for blues brothers coming on ahead of a film my parents were watching and my dad proclaiming he wanted to watch it. This confused me as my parents rarely watched films and when they did they never included car chases. It was about the time I was occasionally able to watch the Dukes Of Hazzard and I also proclaimed I wanted to watch this 'Blues Brothers.

What I witnessed was spectacular. I dont think I grasped the stylised slapstick that ran through the film, I just thought it was delightful seeing car after car trashed over and over and over.

Years later, during study time in sixthform a I somehow had the confidence to walk into a classroom, tell the teacher I had booked the TV, wheeled it out of their class, down a hall into an empty office and a select few of us proceeded to watch the Blues Brothers on VHS. In school time. Good times.

The soundtrack to this masterpiece was the first CD I owned and one of 2 that didn't get stolen when I was burgled. So here is my tribute to the best car chase movie of all time.

'It’s a hundred and six miles to Chicago. We got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes. It's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses'
'Hit it!'
